A modular ATPL course for obtaining the frozen commercial pilot licence

Do you want to join an exciting profession that allows you to travel the whole world? Would you like to attain your commercial pilot licence at your own pace while you continue with other work or study commitments? Aerodynamics Academy will help prepare you to achieve the CPL (A) commercial pilot licence and frozen ATPL (A) licence in a flexible manner.

By completing this course you will be able to work as a professional pilot, starting as a private pilot while working your way through the necessary modules in order to gain the CPL (A) or frozen ATPL.

Aerodynamics Academy’s modular ATPL course meets all the Part-FCL requirements of the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA).

Why should you enrol on the modular ATPL course?

The modular ATPL course allows you to train as a commercial pilot in a flexible manner at your own pace, starting each module whenever you are ready. Many of our students choose this format to complete their pilot training so that they can combine it with their job or other studies.

This system, as it is carried out in stages, also gives students financial benefits, as they can pay for each licence or course in instalments until they complete the entire programme, enjoying the freedom to decide exactly when to start each module.

The modular ATPL course allows future pilots to obtain their frozen ATPL in a personalised way while enjoying complete freedom, choosing between in-person, blended and online learning.

What does the modular ATPL course contain?

Aerodynamics Academy’s modular ATPL course allows you to become a commercial pilot by following a training pathway that is adapted to your availability, meaning that you can obtain the various licences and qualifications when it suits you best, until you complete your frozen ATPL training.

Modules, subjects and qualifications in the modular ATPL course

Upon completion of the commercial pilot course by following the established training pathway, you will have the following licences:

This module lasts between 8 and 12 weeks.

Our PPL course prepares you to fly single-engine aircraft as pilot in command, provided that it is not a paid position. This training course is the first step towards attaining a commercial pilot and airline transport pilot licence at your own pace. It is also perfect if your goal is simply to fly for fun.

The PPL theory course comprises 9 subjects which can be completed either in person (5 weeks) or remotely (online). This stage ends with the 9 official exams which you will also sit here at our facilities.

The subjects are:

  • Air Law
  • Human Performance
  • Operational Procedures
  • Communications
  • Performance
  • Principles of Flight
  • Navigation
  • Aircraft General Knowledge
  • Meteorology

The practical part of the private pilot course comprises 5 hours in a FNPT II flight simulator and 40 hours’ flight time in a single-engine aircraft, 10 of which as pilot in command.

The flying phase of the course comes to a close with a practical exam carried out by an examiner authorised by the Spanish Aviation Safety and Security Agency (AESA)

In-person learning (full-time):

Aerodynamics Academy offers you the chance to complete the 14 theory exams which make up this module in just 6 months. Classes are given on our campus Monday to Friday from 9 am to 5 pm. We boast the best study tools and instructors, many of whom are active airline captains.

Our course is split into three stages, with each of them ending with their respective official exam, sat here at our Austro Control and EASA-authorised centre

Blended or distance learning:

We feature an online study platform where students can find all of the course materials, study guides, self-evaluation tests, question banks and videos they will need, among many other resources, and it allows them to track their progress. This is complemented by in-person classes (brush-up weeks) with instructors at our school before sitting the official exams.

This is the perfect solutions for those who have limited time or who work or study alongside this course.

The subjects are:

  • Air Law
  • Human Performance
  • Operational Procedures
  • Communications
  • Performance
  • Principles of Flight
  • Navigation
  • Aircraft General Knowledge
  • Meteorology

Our theory and practical training is completed in English.

Thanks to its privileged location in Málaga on the Costa del Sol, you will be able to take full advantage of excellent meteorological conditions all year long and complete the flight hours that you need for each step of your training.
You will be able to accumulate 100 hours as pilot in command in 6 to 8 weeks, depending only on your availability to fly.
Our training school is open from Monday to Sunday.

With our VFR Night course, you will obtain the qualification allowing you to fly after sunset.

Theory: 8 hours
Flight: 6 hours in a multi-engine aircraft and practical exam
Duration 4-5 days

On completing this course you will be qualified to fly with instrument ratings (IR). You can complete this course in an advanced single- (SEIR) or multi-engine aircraft (MEIR), meaning that you will be able to fly in IMC conditions, i.e., adverse meteorological conditions that require you to fly according to instrumental references and not external visual references.
Theory: 8 hours
Training in a FNPT II flight simulator: 40 hours

Advanced single- or multi-engine IR flight: 15 hours

FTD-1 A320 flight simulator: 3 hours (PBN)

Practical flight test

This licence allows you to work as pilot in command on commercial flights and in aerial work, in addition to as co-pilot on commercial air transport flights.
Once you have successfully completed all previous courses, this training comprises 15 flight hours.
Duration: 10 days.

The Airline Pilot Standards Multi-Crew Cooperation (APS MCC) course is an improved version of the MCC course. This course trains multi-crew jet aircraft pilots in line with aviation company standards. It has been designed to provide new pilots with all the knowledge and skills they will need to pass entrance tests for aviation companies and to enable pilots to successfully adapt to the workplace.
Our Multi-Crew Cooperation (MCC) programme with airline procedure standardisation is completed in our Airbus A320 flight simulator, which is approved by the Spanish civil aviation authority, meaning that you can assure your position of first officer by passing the entry exams for any airline.
